               Qipao

General information:
- Qipao a dress for Chinese women to display her elegant , modesty, softness and beauty.
- Mature women in Qipao shows  their  figure .
 -It is high-necked, closed-collar  with a loose chest, fitting waist, and the attractive slits.
-It come in all length and pattern  to suit different occasions, weather and individual tastes.
-This dress also don’t need accessories to suit it and it is designed to show women slender legs .

-In Northern China, the term "Qipao"
 -In Southern regions the Qipao is also known as "Cheongsam".  Cheongsam means "long dress", from the Cantonese.
The history:

-In the early 17th century, dress is called Qipao in Chinese or translated as "banner gown", for it came from the people who lived under the Banner System.
-In the 1920s, Qipao became popular throughout China.
-With the influence of Western dress styles, the Cheongsam underwent a change.
-The cuffs grew narrower and were usually trimmed with thin lace..
-Starting from the 1940s it became closer-fitting and more practical.
- 1960s. Following Western fashion, the tailors raised the hem, even to above the knee, so that the "long" was long no longer.
-In Western popular culture, the Qipao became synonymous with the 1960 movie character .

There is a legend that a young fisherwoman who is clever and beautiful  lived by the Jingbo Lake. When fishing her long dress make her uncomfortable , then an idea struck her. She got down to sewing and produced a long multi-looped-button gown with slits, which enabled her to tuck in the front piece of her dress, thus making her job much easier.
One night the emperor had a dream, his dead father  in the dream told him to make a lovely fisherwoman in Qipao by the Jingbo Lake to  become his queen. After awakening from his deep sleep, the emperor sent his men to look for her.  So she became the queen and after that  Manchu women all followed suit and soon the Qipao became popular.
